These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Echo Reader browser extension ("Echo," "the extension") and this website. By installing or using Echo, you agree to these Terms.
1. What Echo Is
Echo is a browser extension that reads web content — X posts, Grok and ChatGPT answers, Substack articles, and text you select — aloud using a text-to-speech voice that runs locally on your device. Echo is provided free of charge for personal use.
2. License
You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Echo on devices you own or control. You may not redistribute, sell, sublicense, or offer Echo as part of a commercial service, and you may not reverse engineer it except where permitted by law.
3. Third-Party Content And Services
Echo reads content from websites you visit (such as X, ChatGPT, and Substack). That content belongs to its respective owners, and your access to it is governed by those services' own terms. Echo also downloads its voice model from Hugging Face on first use; that download is subject to the model host's terms. Echo is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by X Corp., OpenAI, Substack, Google, or Hugging Face.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree to use Echo only for lawful purposes. You are responsible for how you use audio generated from third-party content, including respecting copyright and each website's terms of service.
5. Privacy
Echo processes reading text locally and does not transmit it to Echo-operated servers. How data is handled is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
6. Updates And Availability
Echo may be updated from time to time to add features, fix bugs, or maintain compatibility as third-party websites change. Because Echo depends on the structure of third-party pages, features may stop working without notice if those pages change. We may modify or discontinue Echo at any time.
7. Disclaimer Of Warranties
Echo is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that Echo will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that spoken audio will be an accurate rendition of the underlying text.
8. Limitation Of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall the developer of Echo be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use Echo. Total aggregate liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for Echo (which is zero).
9. Changes To These Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest revision. Continuing to use Echo after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
